Am I the only one wondering if we are now going to start seeing people holding their wrist up to their ears walking down the street and talking into them? Despite the confusion on all the functions [or the point] of The Apple Watch its arrival is anxiously anticipated and it is almost here. Starting April 10 you can place your order to receive your watch by April 24 when it will actually be available, which was announced at today’s live event in San Fran.
1. Let’s start with time
“Let’s start with time,” Cook said, introducing his run-through of the Apple Watch’s feature. Each of the faces is customizable—show meetings and the date, for instance, or don’t—bringing what Cook called “a whole new personal dimension to time-keeping.”
And, to answer my wonderment of people talking into their wrists, YES, you can receive a call by tapping on the watch. “I have been wanting to do this since I was 5 years old!” Cook said. “The day is finally here.” Don’t feel up to a chat? You can send doodles to a friends watch, drawn in real time on the screen, WOW. And as if doodling, talking, texting wasn’t enough – you can now also now send a visualization of your heartbeat, no this is not a joke.
2. Info at a glance
The Glances feature is displayed on your screen by swiping up, which shows the info you use most often, including the weather, your calendar, and your music…and as mentioned you can even check your heart rate. The new Workout all is what this new metric is synced to. The app tracks your workout activity and provides the results such as distance and calories burned.
A day in the life of an Apple Watch wearer is how Kevin Lynch highlighted other features of the watch (the Apple Watch wearer is one who seems to be someone who works in an office, makes dinner reservations, and takes Ubers – isn’t that everyone?) The Apple Watch is basically the iPhone but in a watch…it has Apple Pay, Passbook and Siri.
3. Battery almost 24 hours?
The Apple Watch can also serve as a pain in the ass. It has functions such as nagging when you have been sitting too long and similar to the iPhone it does have to be charged fairly often. However once it is charged it will last up to 18 hours and can charge via a snap-on magnetic plug.
FINE PRINT – The Apple Watch IS dependent on the iPhone, which is where users will download apps and adjust settings in iOS 8.2 and beyond.
