Up until last week Sono (South Norwalk) was missing a seriously good (I mean really, really good) seafood restaurant that offered top quality cuisine while being equally chic in decor. Well, get on opentable.com and book your reservations now because Saltwater Sono has officially opened its doors and it is everything (and more) that we have been wishing for.
Carrying a minimalist nautical theme throughout the open space of Saltwater is a refreshing take on the dining experience and a unique venue for more reasons than one (not to mention it is virtually unrecognizable when one considers the previous dark and confined design of the prior restaurant, Public House Chi.)
Taking advantage of their uber convenient location (slap dab in the center of Washington Street) Saltwater immediately invites any passer by in with the huge glass garage-type of window that it literally the entire length and height of the restaurants store front, allowing for optimal viewing and even better (on days when it is not too hot) this window retracts giving an open, airy vibe to their beyond fresh space. But the larger than life window is not the only awesome feature when it comes to the decor of Saltwater.
With a number of seating options guests have the choice to sit where they please depending on the occasion. Upon entering you are greeted by a huge, spacious bar area equipped with high top tables for dining (not too close together either which is a major bonus) and a slick long bar (super comfy seats even) that wraps around to the main dining area. As you enter the larger space towards the back of the restaurant you are embraced by an impressive two tiered dining space equipped with striped banquettes and tables on both levels.
The best part about Saltwater Sono is that not a detail was spared. Everything from the boat that is literally hanging from the ceiling to the fabric on the banquettes and the flowers on the tables are a true testament to the love and care that has been put into the treasure of creating Saltwater. And while the decor is obviously well worth the visit in itself the best part is their food! Le duh.
Saltwater Sono’s New England menu with a flare is comprised of a variety of mouth watering seafood dishes and equally tasty non-seafood options which makes it beyond difficult to decide on just one item. Another one of the endless awesome details about Saltwater is that they have DAILY $1 oysters AND Happy Hour is 3pm – 7pm Monday through Fri AND 3-6 on Saturdays and Sundays. As if that isn’t enough: Mondays they bave selected apps, beer, and wine by the glass (and selected cocktails) all of which are 50% off.
If I haven’t sold you enough already check out their Facebook page for mouth watering pics!
