I wrote about my first round of Skinvive and Sculptra at Derm Duo in Greenwich and I stand by every word of it. But round two blew the first round out of the water.
I was told very clearly at my first appointment that both treatments are done as a series and that the second round is where the results actually land. Laura was direct about it and outlined the timeline before I ever sat down. I heard “series” and was rolling my eyes with a sense of dread.
I want to dig into this for a minute because I know I am not the only one. When you have spent as much time and money in as many rooms as I have, you develop a reflex. Somebody tells you that you need to come back for another round at another few thousand dollars and a small part of your brain files it under sales. Not lying exactly. Just a very well constructed reason to book you again.
So I nodded, I went home, and I privately decided I would judge the results on round one alone.
None of that was a sales tactic. It was just the medicine, explained accurately, to a person who had been burned enough times to hear it as something else.
Round one was good. I saw some difference, which honestly is better than some other visits elsewhere, and I thought, “okay, round two will maybe be even better.”
And before I go into round two, I want to clarify something else, because had I not assumed and just listened, this would have made more sense as to why two rounds are actually needed: Sculptra, one of the treatments Greenwich women ask Derm Duo about most, is not a filler. It is poly-L-lactic acid, which does not add volume, it prompts your own skin to build collagen over the following months. That is a slow biological process and it is designed as a series. The first session lays groundwork. The second session builds on a foundation that already exists, which is why the change after it does not feel incremental. It compounds.
Skinvive runs on a different clock but the same logic at this Greenwich Avenue dermatology practice. It is a microdroplet hyaluronic acid placed in the cheeks to improve the quality and texture of the skin rather than its shape, and the protocol itself, the actual manufacturer protocol, includes a follow up about a month later. That second appointment is not a fix for something that went wrong. It is how the treatment was built.
None of that was a sales tactic. It was just the medicine, explained accurately, to a person who had been burned enough times to hear it as something else.
After the second round of each, what I noticed was not a dramatic, hard-to-adjust-to before and after. It was a “wow, I haven’t looked this much like the me I remember in a long time.” My face stopped looking tired. The texture across my cheeks reads differently in daylight. Makeup sits better. Light hits my skin now instead of settling into it.
Which brings me to the part I actually want to say.
I have been to a lot of places. More than I would put in print. And the experience of walking out of an appointment genuinely feeling good about how I look, not relieved, not neutral, not talking myself into it in the car on the way home, is far rarer than it should be for the amount of money involved. Usually you walk out hoping. Sometimes you walk out slightly worse and spend two weeks pretending otherwise.
I walked out of Derm Duo in Greenwich after round two feeling like I looked like myself on a very good day several years ago. That is the entire goal and almost nobody hits it.
So if you go, go in knowing you may be told it requires committing to a series. Budget for it, plan the timing, and do not judge anything until you are through the second round.
And when Laura and Diana tell you that, believe them the first time! Trust me when I say that you will be really, really happy you did.
