It’s the New Year, and you know what that means, new trends. Out with the old and in with the new. But what trends are we hoping to leave in the past. Here are my top 14 things that should stay in 2014.
1. Flower Crowns
Sure, the hippie revival was nice, but the flower crowns got old really fast. Lets stick to some regular headbands in the new year and leave the flowers in the ground.
2. Super Long Hair
Long hair is beautiful, but Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner’s chopped locks show us that its not all about the long curly locks. Long hair is still acceptable but it’s reaching your butt, a nice New Year hair cut wouldn’t hurt.
3. Fake Tans
Enough with the fake tans! Orange is not and will never be attractive. If you have fair skin, here’s a tip, OWN IT! Snow White had skin as white as snow and every woman in the fucking kingdom wanted to look like her. So put down the spray and embrace your princess genes.
4. Eagle Talon Tips
No more talons. They don’t look stylish, they look dangerous and extremely impractically. Typing must be impossible, and I’m sure several people have been injured by them. So let’s just round those tips off and forget they ever happened.
5. Over Drawn Lips
This was a huge topic when Kylie Jenner decided to make her lips look like water balloons. Since everyone wants to look like her, of course everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Let’s leave the lip pencils in 2014 and chalk it up to peer pressure ladies. I’m sure you didn’t want to do that to your face on purpose.
6. Furry Coats
Sorry to those of you who loved this trend but the next on my list are those weird coats with the long fur on the outside. They just look strange. End of story.
7. Chic-o-pedics
I didn’t even know these things existed until I returned to school in Boston and saw several people on the street wearing…old lady sandals. The fact that they are called chic-o-pedics says it all. If you don’t have a cool name, then what are you?
8. Creeping Up Crop Tops
Don’t get me wrong, I love crop tops just like the next girl, but I have to ask that the cropping stop. 2014 was the year crop tops came back, but what you trying to prove by shrinking every season. Let’s keep it classy in 2015 ladies.
9. Too Much Fringe
Fringe was huge in 2014; a little too huge. By the end of the year, shirts were becoming a giant waterfall of fringe. Let’s just save this one in last year archive and pull it out 20 some odd years and call it retro. Deal?
10. Shear
I’m all about the sheer materials that were huge this past year, but it seems like somewhere along the way, sheer became to primary material in some clothes. Bras were showing. Panties were showing. Let’s say the trend of 2015 is leaving some things to the imagination.
11. Ruffles
I always hated ruffles so I’ll leave it at that.
12. Over contouring
It seems like it’s all about Kim Kardashian these days and I am so tired of it. No one should feel like they have to contour their face to look like one person, who by the way, is a horrible role model anyway. So stop plastering bronzer on your jaw lines and just stick to looking like yourself. No one will hate you for it.
13. Od’ing on Eye Makeup
I will be the first to admit that I will be sad to see this trend go, but it has to. It’s not an everyday look and is starting to look a tad tacky. And no one wants to start off the New Year looking tacky.
14. The Shaved Head
I had to end with this trend because I have seen first hand the regret many girls have after doing it. It takes a lot of commitment and maintenance, and with all the amazing things you’re going to do this year, I don’t think you’ll have the time!
