Right here in CT lives what remains of the once thriving ‘holy’ themed amusement park, better known as Holy Land USA.
Over the holidays we found a lot of joy in going for good old fashioned ‘drives.’ But these drives took a turn for the better and became a whole lot more interesting this past week when we decided to have Google assist us in finding destinations to visit in CT (with the requirement of these places being just a drive away!)
And that is how we got to Holy Land USA, literally and figuratively, and Holy Land USA turned out to be just one of the many places we discovered!
That said, after discovering this we went on a little road trip to Waterbury CT so we could visit the site of this once super popular amusement park.
Firstly, the place is impressive, respectfully creepy and the craftmanhip is truly equally admirable. The story behind the founders vision is also admirable and unique to say the least. The Holy Land USA 15+ acre property is covered in miniature replicas of bible scenes, Jerusalem villages and more. Albeit the structures are now falling apart more and more with each passing day, this ‘holy’ amusement park once attracted 40,000+ visitors annually back in the 60’s and 70’s.
