I'm always looking for the same thing: workout and nutrition help that's manageable, credible, and actually sticks. I think I've found it, through a Greenwich physical therapist named Dr. Casey Schack, and I have to share.
I go through phases with working out. If you read my latest barre post, you know I'm in my gentle-workout era — small movements, nothing that involves someone yelling at me to do another burpee. But I also know I need to make room for strength training, since building and maintaining muscle matters more as we get older, and I want to be consistent about it.
No fluff, no intimidation, no making you feel like you need to rearrange your entire life to get started.
The question is always: where do I start? There's so much out there.
While scrolling last year, I came across @drcaseyschackgreenwichpt. Truth be told, I've known Casey since high school — she was always the healthy, down-to-earth girl who was friends with everyone. Now she's a physical therapist in Greenwich who helps people get stronger and healthier for a living, and seeing her build a career out of that makes perfect sense. She has the training and the track record behind the advice she posts.
Knowing her made me pay attention. Her advice made me keep coming back.
Casey's Instagram is one of those accounts you pop into for a minute and somehow leave with ten saved posts: a protein- and fiber-packed pasta alternative, a quick lunch on the go, ways to fit strength training into your day, her "quick a** workouts," which I especially appreciate. Useful, everyday things that make taking care of yourself feel doable.
That's what I love about her approach. No fluff, no intimidation, no making you feel like you need to rearrange your entire life to get started.
She also just told me that if you have a workout space at home, she'll come do an in-home assessment — looking at your space and your goals — and then match you with one of her trainers for a consistent program built around what she finds. Having someone tell me where to start and give me an actual plan? Yes, please. I'm scheduling it.
If you're looking for everyday tips, workout inspiration, or help building a routine with someone who actually knows what she's doing, go follow @drcaseyschackgreenwichpt. Just leave yourself enough time to scroll.
