Regardless of the occasion, night, time or ensemble, at my house the women ALWAYS end up in the kitchen! And I don’t just mean cooking, I mean yapping, chatting and laughing quite often! But whether we send five minutes or five hours at our dining room table my most favorite memories are there, so I like to give it a little extra love when it comes to decor.
For the dining table I prefer having an abundant and full, yet monochromatic, centerpiece look not only adds a beautiful ‘I woke up like this’ look to the entire room 24/7 but it also adds an element of cozy that tends to encourage dinner guests to linger through dessert (which I always love!) While our home still has a ways to go, (a constant work in progress but a labor of love which I truly LOVE DOING!) we do have a fabulous, 16 seated French, wood rectangle shaped table that has been begging for a scape since we moved in.
I am drawn to adding branches, a dash of greenery and sometimes a touch of foliage, especially on the outskirts and ends of either side of this table. I have found this not only draws the eye to the center as the focal point but also brings everything, and everyone, together in what looks like an effortless way. Even if you have an octagon shaped table that seats two, trust me when I say there is a tablescape for everyone and for every table.
For greenery, my hint of color, I find painting pumpkins (real or faux) muted tones of green is super easy and gorgeous. I also feel that the almost dull green color families, typically those with very faint hints of blue within their deepest layers, are best for inner calm as we find ourselves on the countdown to the holiday season. They are the perfect, non-intrusive transition from summer to winter and somehow find a way to always remind me to CALM THE F DOWN.
Plus, let’s gobble up alllll the non- intruders while we can pre-fam-holiday time, yes?
In other words, this color palette slash combo is very calming.
Plus, if you really want to know what I am getting at here it is this: we just got bitch slapped with the bright Lilly Pulitzer green ALLLLL summer long and we are soon to be slammed by the glaring evergreen of the holidays and blinding hues of reds so let’s just pipe down with the color, smoothly glide into and through October before the shit show of family and holidays ensues.
