Tell us about JoyRide.
JoyRide is boutique fitness studio founded almost six years ago by Westport residents Rhodie Lorenz and Amy Hochhauser. It began as a cycling studio with complementary off-the-bike “Studio 2” classes such as circuit, barre, and Pilates. JoyRide is an exercise studio, but it is also an inclusive, positive and joyful fitness community. We believe in empowering people through fitness and training the mind and body to overcome life’s challenges through practicing mental and physical training in our classes.
How is JoyRide different from other fitness companies and workouts?
JoyRide is a family. The relationships and bonds that are created among staff, instructors and riders begins in the studio, but goes well beyond it. We are in the business of building people up and supporting them in meeting their fitness goals to find more JOY in their lives at JoyRide and in their personal and professional lives. Our workouts are different from other fitness companies because we have the JoyRide Method of cycling, designed by founder Rhodie Lorenz, which is a proprietary method of cycling instruction designed to create a fun, high-intensity, consistent and safe workout. We have internal, continuing education programs to keep instructors up-to-date on fitness trends and continuing to hone their skills. Our Studio 2 classes are capped at 12, so there is a tremendous amount of individual attention given to each participant in the class.
Our newly launched JoyX program, which incorporates high-intensity boxing and rowing, is also a proprietary class format, designed and created by our exceptional team of instructors and trainers.
What makes the JoyRide workout unique and especially perfect for your body?
JoyRide workouts are unique because the classes are thoughtfully designed to maximize results while creating a joyful experience. Exercise should feel challenging, but gratifying and empowering. It should feel like training and not a chore. Our instructors are highly motivational, exceptionally trained and personable coaches that believe in each and every client at JoyRide. The workouts are perfect for your body because all classes accommodate any fitness level AND while we are a studio, we are also a one-stop-shop for the three key elements you need for a well rounded fitness program: Strength, Cardio and Flexibility. From our indoor cycling, boxing and rowing classes to our Pilates, barre, circuit and sculpt classes, you can get all of your fitness needs met at JoyRide/ JoyX and have a blast along the way!
Describe a typical class.
A typical cycling class is set to upbeat, diverse and motivating music in a dimly lit room led by an instructor who coaches riders through the ride. The ride is tightly choreographed to the music and riding on the beat, while changing up resistance, speed and positioning on the bike to keep it challenging and engaging for the riders. There is a strong sense of team spirit in riding with a group, and riders find that they can push themselves beyond limits with the powerful group energy of the team. The ride is 50 or 60 minutes and finishes with five-to-seven minutes of arm work with light hand weights. It is a full body cardio workout for mind and body!
How many different class options are there, and how do they differ?
Cycling. Circuit. Pilates. Barre. JoyX. JoyRow. JoyBox. JoyXX. (see above)
What is JoyX?
JoyX is JoyRide’s latest venture! We are so excited to introduce this to the community. It is located above our flagship studio in Westport and offers combination boxing and rowing classes. We were seeking to offer something original and brand-new to CT: a fun, high-energy hybrid class of rowing and boxing. So, we put together a stellar team and created an amazing program. Like cycling, boxing and rowing are more than a fitness fad, they are longstanding forms of fitness that appeal to all ages and genders, and JoyRide found a way to put our own signature mark on these disciplines and create a new fitness experience – like no other!
What advice do you have for beginners looking to start working out with you?
Anyone is welcome! Whether you are just starting your fitness journey or a seasoned athlete, our classes will meet you where you are.
Any last minute health and fitness tips for our GGs?
Exercise should be something that you look forward to because if fuels the body, mind, and soul. Find a routine with a motivational coach and in a social setting and the experience is enhanced and you are more apt to continue. It is also important to diversity workouts. So, mix it up to keep it interesting and continue to challenge yourself.
What is next in store for JoyRide?
In the wise words of LL Cool J: “We’re gonna take this itty bitty world by storm, and we’re just gettin’ warm.”
