Everyone always resolves to create a better version of themselves in the new year. Which for many people means trying to start a gym routine. For those of us who are gym regulars, not just January Joiners, we can get frustrated when overcrowding throws a wrench in our routine. Whether you’re looking for a solution when there’s a line for your favorite treadmill, or if you’re looking for a good routine to start your new plan, here’s 3 GG approved workouts to get you going!
1. Take the Stairs!
While taking the stairs whenever possible is a great way to get an extra little boost in, many gyms have stair climbing machines. These are rotating staircases where you can manually set the speed, or use a preset program to get in a FANTASTIC workout. This machine torches calories by engaging all the muscles in your lower body to carry your own body weight. It’s low impact, and 20 minutes on the stairclimber is just as effective as a 30-40 minute run.
2. ERG-The Full Body Work Out
The rowing machine can be pretty scary to someone who doesn’t know what to do with it. Most gyms will have a class or a trainer to teach you the proper technique. What most people don’t know about rowing, is that it involves very little arm strength and requires tremendous lower body strength. The rowing machine is a full body workout that engages your core, tones your upper body, and boosts lower body strength. You can “Erg” at a steady state, or do an interval workout and mix it up so it never gets boring!
Spinning is the latest trend in fitness for a reason! Joyride is the perfect place to get yourself back on track in the new year. Join a group spin class, available for different skill levels and intensities. Get motivated and get fit with their enthusiastic staff and top of the line equipment!
4. Pure Barre
Think Pure Barre sounds like an easy, breezy, ballerina-esque workout? Think again. This workout is full body, and very intense for a total 55 minute class. Sculpt, tone, and lift your way to a new you in 2016!
