We’re back on another adventure – today, we’re stopping in Stamford to hit up all the best in food and fun, and of course, we’re embarking on a little retail therapy. Our foolproof guide to Stamford is below, so get going!
Café Silvium: Consistently ranked as one of the top restaurants in the area, Café Silvium is your go-to in traditional and unbelievably delicious Italian fare. Owned and opened by brothers Nick and Vincenzo Petrafesa in 2001, Café Silvium has one simple vision: “to create a cozy atmosphere where anyone could sit down comfortably and enjoy their hearty traditional Italian meals”. They pull their recipes and inspiration from their hometown of Gravina Di Puglia, Bari, Italy, and offer everything from penne arrabbiata to bruschetta, ravioli to calamari, “pollo al peperoncino picante” to caprese, and many more dishes. Their daily specials list is long and equally as drool worthy. This restaurant is an absolute must when you’re in town, but be sure to get there early, since as you might imagine, they fill up fast!
Lorca: To get your buzz going for the day, stop by Lorca and get some delicious coffee and treats! Originally opened by Leyla Jenkins, a used-to-be architect from Brooklyn and originally from Spain, Lorca is inspired by tasty churros and cortado and brings a flavorful and hip vibe to downtown Stamford (and the original location in Darien). They hold events that are posted on their website, and their menu ranges everywhere from coffee to specialty drinks, baked goods to breakfast, sandwiches to bottles drinks. You can satisfy your sweet tooth with some chai truffles or, of course, churros, and can also fill up with a savory bite for breakfast or lunch, with options ranging from a southwest sandwich or fig prosciutto and provolone sammy. Their coffee list embraces all classics with some fun original drinks, as well, like the London fog tea latte or a “lorchata”. Whatever you’re looking for to get that daily boost, Lorca is the perfect spot for a mid-afternoon pick me up!
Asian Bistro: All GG’s love a good hidden gem to escape to when you have the munchies, and Asian Bistro is one of our favorites! Offering Japanese cuisine, Asian Bistro also features “a village like setting inside the dining hall, casual sushi bar, and a friendly, experience staff waiting to give you that unique dining experience you’d only get if you were visiting the country itself”. The interior is intricate and stunning, and the food is even more memorable. Aside from the Japanese and sushi offerings, they serve a variety of Asian fusion dishes including some all time favorites like General Tso’s chicken, Thai curry, and hibachi entrées. They even provide lunch specials for all entrées and sushi rolls at such low prices that it’s almost mind-blowing. Delicious cuisine, trendy locale, no breaking the bank – what else could you need?!
Stamford Town Center: Ready to shop ‘til you drop? The Stamford Town Center has absolutely everything you could ever possibly need for your ideal shopping excursion – it is impossible not to spend hours wandering the floors and leaving with bags and bags of new clothes. Located in downtown Stamford, you can find anything from Apple to Michael Kors, Zara to Pottery Barn, William Sonoma to Sephora, and the list goes on. There are even a few spots to stop and grab a quick nosh. This truly is our happy place, and we know all you GG’s will absolutely love it, too!
The Palace Theatre: Feel like adding a little culture to your perfect Stamford day? If you answered yes, The Palace Theatre is your next and final stop of the journey. Go online to check out their schedule of events and book your tickets now for the event you’ve been looking forward to for weeks! They feature shows in all categories, including ballet, comedy, dance, music, magic, and more – and of course, many events are family friendly. Some upcoming shows include STOMP, Chicago ft. JD & the Straight Shot, Newsboys, and more. If you’re looking to turn your daytime Stamford visit into a full nighttime outing, head over to Cask Republic (bonus!) for a quick drink, like a “cocoa loco” or a “dragons breath”, then make your way to the Palace Theatre to top off your fun-filled evening.
And now, you can officially call yourself a Stamford-ian!
