Hop on board with us to Old Saybrook this week to discover the best in food and fashion!
Pearls & Plaid: This little boutique is an absolutely amazing find tucked away in little Old Saybrook, CT. It opened in 2014 in East Haddam, ultimately branching out in 2016 with this shop, and strives to “bring affordable fashion to women on the Connecticut shoreline”. They sell tops, bottoms, rompers, dresses, tees, tanks, outerwear, swimwear, shoes, accessories, and more, and everything is trendy, hip, and very affordable. You can’t go wrong, and there is something for every occasion! They even have a new “wedding bells” section on their site for the upcoming wedding season, so be sure to check that out, too!
Fresh Salt: Located right on the water at Saybrook Point, Fresh Salt is an excellent locale for your New England seafood fix and a relaxing afternoon with fresh bites and stunning views. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they offer everything you could ever dream of when it comes to seafood and beyond (but they are especially known for their clam chowder and lobster rolls). Items include fresh-salt style cioppino, littleneck clams, oysters Rockefeller, bacon-wrapped monkfish, ricotta gnocchi, burrata-prosciutto purses, two kinds of calamari, filet mignon, and so much more. Fresh Salt is truly a breath of fresh air!
Pasta Vita: Looking for something to bring home for dinner? Pasta Vita is here to save the day! They are “Connecticut’s premier destination for gourmet prepared meals and catering, and have been for over 20 years”. Chef Lou Castanho prepares fresh dishes and meals daily, packaged and ready for you to take home. Everything serves 2-4 people and is ready to be eaten in just a few minutes after it’s heated, and they sell anything from entrees to side dishes, appetizers, soups, salads, breads, and desserts. There are even weekly specials that you can enjoy, too. You will be reeling from one look at their extensive and mouth-watering menu that offers hundreds of dishes they prepare regularly. Pasta Vita is an absolute lifesaver and your new favorite pit stop – you’re welcome in advance!
Aspen Restaurant: Opened by Charles Spathakis as a result of multiple other local and successful restaurant endeavors, Aspen Restaurant offers “contemporary American cuisine created from the highest quality, freshest, sustainable ingredients and methods”. Aspen is the perfect place for a delicious lunch that mixes the classics with something new and exciting to try. They are open for dinner, as well, and there is something for everyone on the menu, as they highlight multiple different cuisines through their eclectic and mouth-watering array of dishes. Some choices are: spicy Asian greens, grilled flatbread, steak panini, cavatelli pasta, Greek-style chicken skewer, Korean style noodle bowl, Montreal hanger steak, seared rabbit loin…seriously, we weren’t kidding about their expertise of multiple different cuisines. If you’re looking for something unique and tasty, Aspen is the place to go.
