Working at home is absolutely one of life’s luxuries; however, it does have its downfalls. For example one who works from home does face many more distractions than one in an office environment, ie: I could be doing laundry, that cabinet needs reorganizing, oh what’s a quick episode of Friends really going to hurt, you catch the drift. For this very reason organization is key to being as productive as possible. While I haven’t always had a team working with me (my GGirls I love you!) I am blessed to have the best assistants on the planet. While Container Store and custom workplace home-office builders such as Closets by Design are a few of my favorite options when it comes to designing an office space (and sadly among the pricier options) you can in fact find just as cool shelving, cubby, desk and other options are lower price range places like IKEA or consignment shops. Organization tools on any budget. Scroll below to see the top 3 office tools I need to function in any office space!
Aside from organization picking a color palette for your home office space that showcases your personality and taste while allowing you creative liberty is also essential in having a workspace that you actually want to, and can, sit in for prolonged periods of times. There are days when I spend ten hours straight sitting at my desk (Starbucks runs in between every 2 hours obviously) – so PLEASE for the love of all things holy and for the sake of your back please invest in a comfortable chair.
I personally like to have a solid chair (lucite) with a fluffy pillow – it keeps my posture perfect and allows me to snuggle in when I get antsy. I love black and gold anything so having that surround me makes for the perfect private escape. Being a huge fan of minimalism when it comes to the work place I also take full advantage of every square inch. File holders, boxes of all sizes, sparatic statues and magnetic everything are life savers when it comes to having efficient space especially when you have assistants who are rockstars and wear multiple hats with their responsibilities. This set up is a combination of IKEA chairs and shelving and all Container Store organization bins.
Lastly, every detail counts. From your glasses to your card case and always fresh flowers. They bring life to any space and the details make you feel like even the slightest thing can pull everything together.
A few of my favorite functional office tools to keep things tidy are:
1. Quirky Cordies: http://bit.ly/2nz8Vvc $13 at Walmart
Having a desktop chord management system that organizes every cable known to man is literally one of my favorite things to have whether at home working or on the go. Five rubber grips with four slots can hold power cords, USB cords, cellphone chargers, audio cables, headphones and more.
2. Laptop Stand: http://dell.to/2ng2UQE $17 by Rolodex
Not only does this stnd hold a laptop but most importantly its cooling vents keep it from overheating (remember those ten hour writing sessions I meantion? Overheating is real!) Its cable management system feature keeps wires organized and the stand can be adjusted from 12-degree to 35-degree angles for whatever the best angle for viewing and typing is.
3. Magnetic Wall Pocket: http://bit.ly/2mOM2oV $20 at The Container Store
The Magnetic Wall Pocket keeps everything organized on the office wall except it has wider design ideal for file folders and documents. Personally i find this to be a life saver for organization the night before each workday. Simply throw all files needed for the following days meetings into the wall pocket and just grab and go in the morning. The pocket comes with magnets for posting to-do lists, reminders and even hanging keys on the outside – GENIUS!
